Most of you would probably already know (or guessed, because we were sneaky and unassuming like that) that we are EXPECTING A LITTLE SOM!
It has been such a great journey so far, with the endless love and support that has been pouring in from our family and friends everywhere in the world.
My favourite part of this process so far is meeting old friends who missed the "announcement" and completely caught by surprise when we mention, "Yeah Atheena is in her second trimester now."
Cue: (shocked expression, looks at Angkea then me then Angkea again for confirmation) GASPS! CONGRATULAAAAATIONSSS!!
It is quite lovely discovering the latest "last person to find out" each time. It is almost a uniformed reaction but I don't think we'll get sick of it just yet :)
Then comes the list of questions that everyone asks almost always, I've realised. Sometimes I run out of new ways to answer... So I've decided I needed to start this:
#WeAreTheSoms Pregnancy Top 5 FAQ
Question #1: "How are you feeling?"
This question normally comes right after finding out that we are pregnant. For some reason I am expected to feel mAgIcAl now that I have a thingamajig in me.
To be honest, not much of a difference! Sorry if I burst your bubble.
I am just always excited to get a bump but it's taking longer than always. Yknow, I don't even get offered a seat when I'm on the public transport, sigh. (<- Yeah that would have been a massive #AchievementUnlocked according to Singapore standards. It's a cultural thing, you gotta be here to understand!)
Question #2: "Any changes recently?"
Sometimes I don't know where to begin with this question.
I could give a short answer: Yes.
Or... I could say: Yes. Tons of them. There's a thing growing in me right now, that's a start. BUT I can't see the change yet. You wouldn't believe it if I told you I'm almost 5 months in, would you?
The only big change right now - if you really must know - my now 34DD boobs. Hello Katy Perry boobs and new bras!
Question #3: "Do you get... Morning sickness??"
This one's funny. I did get nausea/sickness but... Mine was at night! Right after dinner, or before bedtime.
Both times were miserable. Let me tell you why -
In the first trimester I was all about "Imma crave this and that and top it off with a bunch of other things". It was an amazing experience. Food I craved - I LOVE THEM TILL DEATH DO US PART. Food I despised - GET THAT PIECE OF JUNK AS FAR AWAY FROM ME.
So imagine this, mealtime was absolute bliss because I ate what I loved. But the moment the nausea kicked in RIGHT AFTER THE BLISSFUL MEAL. Imagine all the food I ate that I had to forcefully take out... Nasty.
It's a shorter explanation before bedtime. Nobody wants to go to bed feeling sick, yeah?
The only good thing from nausea and all that vomitting (I'm being dramatic, it happened only a couple of times haha) was the after. It's like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders and you feel like there's perfection in life again after all!
Question #4: "What do you crave the most!"
This is my favourite question!
During the first trimester, it was pretty evident that my body's metabolism was like saying to me, "Oh yeah, bring it on! We can't wait to make this place a home for Little Som!"
CURRY. All kinds of hot and spicy and amaaaazing curry goodness, I wanted them ALL.
Indian! Chinese! Malay! Burmese! Thai!
Curry with chicken. Or curry with fish, oooh yum.
Curry with rice? Sure! Curry with pasta, bread, noodles and more rice, I COULDN'T SAY NO.
Fortunately the curry fiesta has slowed down - I'm really, really into potatoes now.
I feel like they can be my best friends. The kind of best friends you wanna hang out with for hours and hours because it feels so right and the conversations don't end. Ya feel me?
So if you're eating potatoes in front of me and did not think about offering me some, I might be a bit sad.
Just saying that I might, but I cannot confirm it. These hormones can be quite a surprise - I must warn you.
Question #5: "So... (With eagerness) Do you know the gender yet?"
YES!
